The New Pornographers are a band from Vancouver, British Columbia that formed back in 1997. Members include Carl Newman (A.C. Newman), Dan Bejar (Destroyer, Swan Lake), Neko Case, John Collins (Destroyer), Blaine Thurier, Todd Fancey (Limblifter), Kathryn Calder (Immaculate Machine), and Joe Seiders. Their music is known for combining elements of indie and power pop. Whiteout Conditions is their seventh studio album release.

When it comes to the music of The New Pornographers, I'm more of a fan of 2000's Mass Romantic on through to 2007's Challengers. I wouldn't go as far as saying that those are all stellar albums, but I will say that many of those songs bring back wonderful memories. The problem I have with their following albums is that there's nothing memorable about them. The music just didn't resonate with me anymore.

After listening to the band's latest release, I can honestly say that they should really stick with their way more enjoyable solo projects. This lifeless new album overstays its welcome early, making the rest of the journey a dull and grueling experience. In the end, Whiteout Conditions is a terrible record, empty and lacking any energy, with songwriting utterly incapable of inspiring anything besides frustration. Skip it.
