Sylvan Esso is a duo from Durham, North Carolina that formed in 2013. Members include Amelia Meath (vocals) and Nick Sanborn (production, instrumentals). What Now is their second studio album release.

Sylvan Esso's Upbeat electronic indie pop album What Now doesn't quite match the romantic charm of their 2014 self-titled debut, but in the end, it still manages to be somewhat satisfying. The music is colored with soft electronics and production, which can often come across sounding like a video game soundtrack from the pixel era days but it's Meath's sultry vocals, the delicious ingredient, that makes everything so pleasantly likable. She has this lounge-coffee house folk style that's soft and incredibly comforting, comparable to Zooey Deschanel of  She & Him. Some of my favorite tracks include "The Glow," "Song," and "Rewind." What Now is an enjoyable record, not great but Meath elevates it with depths of feeling that compensates when the electro beats become a bit too mundane. Worth a listen.
