If you're not familiar with Desmond Jones, it's about time to get acquainted. Desmond Jones is a five-piece funk/rock/jazz fusion band from Grand Rapids, Michigan. Their songs are driven by sunny harmonies, layered over enticing melodies, captivating guitar riffs, smooth tempo transitions, and interesting lyrics all balanced within a myriad of Jazz, Funk, Prog. Rock, Blues, and Alto-Country elements.
As part of their summer tour, Desmond Jones recently opened for another one of our favorite bands, Dopapod. During Desmond Jones' performance, Dopapod guitarist, Rob Compa, sat in with Desmond Jones to form what is now known as DopaJones and performed a groovy solo filled, call and response, straight funk nasty rendition of Desmond Jones' "Hot Hamm." As we know, the art of the sit-in can be difficult, but veteran Rob Compa makes it easy strutting his strength when given the floor and melting into the band when necessary. If you've never had the opportunity to see Desmond Jones, this video should place them high up on your to-do list.
