Mac Demarco is a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. His musical style has been described as "blue wave" and "slacker rock." This Old Dog is his third studio album release.

Fans of Demarco's previous work, no doubt, will eat the new record up, as the first half offers some of his best material to date, but it's the underwhelming second half that holds it back from achieving a level of greatness. There's a certain feeling of intimacy with This Old Dog that makes for a good chill-out-with-your-friends in your living room kind of album, and it may perhaps even sway you to pull out the volcano. Demarco, who also performs all the instrumentation, demonstrates an appealing happy-go-lucky vibe with engaging mellow grooves and vocals.  I would describe the music as folk rock with a thin layer of psych pop, sounding something like a cross between Keller Williams and John Lennon.  Standout tracks include "My Old Man," "This Old Dog," "Baby You're Out," and "One Another." The backstretch is a bit of a mish-mash, but I would recommend This Old Dog to anyone based on the excellent first half alone.
