Future islands is a band based out of Baltimore, Maryland that formed in 2006. Members include Samuel T. Herring (vocals), Gerrit Welmers (keyboards) and William Cashion (bass, acoustic and electric guitars). The Far Field is their fifth studio album release.
The Far Field is another solid effort from Future Islands. I would describe the music as a unique blend of new wave, post-punk and synth pop but what really draws you in is Herring's magnetic vocal style and Cashion's bouncy bass lines. It's a perfect collaboration. And nearly all the songs are vibrant and arresting. Some of my favorite tracks include "Ran," "Cave," "Through The Roses," "North Star," "Day Glow Fire," and "Shadows" (featuring Debbie Harry of Blondie). The Far Field is a record that grows on the listener, and it's a satisfying follow-up to 2014's critically acclaimed Singles. Highly recommended.
