The much-awaited sophomore album from Baltimore's brass rock power-plug Stacked Like Pancakes will be released on December 24th. The band sees This Is Us as a fitting gift to their loyal fans--new music on Christmas Eve, though one that they can start to peek under the wrapping paper before it's time to open it. Today they are revealing the cover art, track listing and the first new song from the album, and the first new music they have released in four years since their 2011 debut album, We're Not Insane.
The long time between releases was a matter of Stacked Like Pancakes relentlessly touring and playing live, developing a thriving fan base in several markets throughout the East Coast. The writing process was on-going throughout the last several years, but lead singer Kellen McKay wanted to wait for everything to come together before setting foot in the studio. "As much as it hurt to wait, it didn't feel right to force out a new album while we were focusing on college. Patience was a virtue I had to learn all over again, but without my degree, I wouldn't have been able to write nearly as demanding a song as 'Planetary.' The song has power, but with some vulnerability, and it was, therefore, a natural decision for 'Planetary' to be the first emphatic statement from This Is Us."
The new release follows up their most successful year to date, with the highlight of playing several stops on the 2015 Warped Tour, an experience that was way more impactful than they ever anticipated. Andy Dawson shared just what the experience meant to SLP. "Warped tour allowed us to really expand our fan base past our home turf. We ran around like crazy with our horns playing familiar tunes to force people to know who we are. We made a lot of great friends on the road who now support and follow what we do."
This Is Us will be available on iTunes on December 24, 2015, with other major digital outlets to come.
