Sarah Shook & The Disarmers is a band from Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Members include Sarah Shook (vocals, rhythm guitar), Eric Peterson (Electric guitar), John Howie Jr. (Drums), Aaron Oliva (Upright bass) and Phil Sullivan (Pedal Steel). Sidelong is their debut release.

There are plenty of great singles on Sidelong, and Shook is a rare thrill who never fails to impress. Her vocal style reminds me of the classic honky tonk and Nashville sound of the 60s. The songwriting is superb, and the instrumentation is solid, and like many esteemed classics, Sidelong offers many memorable songs such as "Keep The Home Fires Burnin," "Heal Me," "Sidelong," "Dwight Yoakam," and "Fuck Up." Sarah Shook & The Disarmers' new record is essential listening, especially for the old-school country music aficionados. And if you're thinking this sort stuff isn't your thing, give it a chance because there's a fair chance you will relish Sidelong. The album offers a refreshing take on the classic barroom country sound and turns it into something thoroughly enjoyable and unique. Worth checking out.
