Laura Marling is a singer-songwriter from Eversley, Hampshire, England. Marling was also one of the original members of the band, Noah and the Whale. Short Movie is her fifth studio release and the first record to feature her on electric guitar rather than the acoustic style of her previous work.

Short Movie is just another shining example of a female singer-songwriter who continues to showcase a body of work that can stand out among the best in folk music. Marling’s vocal style could easily be compared to someone like Ani Difranco or Carly Simon, but I would say that her harmonies and songwriting prowess possesses a tad more flare of emotion. There’s just something that really draws you in you when she sings. Her lyrics are intelligent and powerful and it breathes effortlessly across the folk-rock instrumentation. Essential tracks include “Warrior,” “False Hope,” “Walk Alone,” “Don’t Let Me Bring You Down,” “Easy,” “Gurdjieff’s Daughter,” “Divine” and “How Can I.”
