Father John Misty, also known as Joshua Tillman, is a singer-songwriter and former drummer of the band Fleet Foxes. Pure Comedy is his third studio album release as Father John Misty and features additional instruments such as strings and horns.

Sweet, funny, sad, insightful and often thought-provoking, nearly all the songs on Pure Comedy are immediately satisfying and quietly dazzling from start to finish. With a style that's grand, moving and richly detailed, Tillman is in the midst of his peak songwriting years. There are many standout singles on the album such as "Pure Comedy," "Total Entertainment Forever," "Things It Would Have Been Helpful to Know Before the Revolution," "Ballad of the Dying Man," "Two Wildly Different Perspectives," and "In Twenty Years or So." Except for a couple of tracks, Pure Comedy is solid. I would describe the music somewhere between indie folk and folk-rock with marvelous songwriting that resonates with warm charm and clever wit. If you've never listened to Father John Misty, you're really missing out on something special. A singer-songwriter of this caliber doesn't come around too often. Pure Comedy is another classic release and further proof that Tillman is one of the finest musicians alive today.
