Japanese Breakfast is the solo project of singer and guitarist Michelle Zauner of the band Little Big League from Brooklyn, New York. Psychopomp is her debut studio album release.

Psychopomp immediately reels you into its rhythms and Zauner's vocal style is delicate yet suffused with emotion and atmosphere. It's gratifying melodic indie pop that's smart and refreshing, and although the new record starts off strong, it does gradually peter in and out in the second half. Standout tracks include "In Heaven," "The Woman That Loves You," "Rugged Country," "Everybody Wants To Love You," and "Heft." While Psychopomp may not have achieved total greatness, Zauner has written some amazing songs here that help make this a compelling listen from start to finish. Highly recommended.
