Phantoms, comprised of Vincent Pergola and Kyle Kaplan, is an electronic duo spinning dark pop dance tracks out of Los Angeles. This self-titled album debuts as Phantom’s first full-length studio release and includes the recently released single, “Just a Feeling,” featuring vocals by Vérité.

The duo has generally shied from the idea of categorizing their sound with a genre, and as house changes to trance changes to dub on the album, it’s apparent that they’ve tried to encompass it all. Phantoms carries a subtle, fluid groove with a nostalgic nod at nineties club trance. The energy stays relatively mellow throughout the near dozen tracks, although surprises hide in a few of them; for instance, the dubby synthesizer that takes over the last minute or so in “Downtown.” Overall, Phantoms is an album that has you feeling good without trying too hard. From start to finish, it’s a safe, cohesive compilation of sounds that can just as easily be played in the car as on the dance floor. Standout tracks include “Someone to Talk About,” “Just a Feeling,” and “Whatcha Want Me To Do.”
