Duncan Lloyd is a singer, songwriter, and better known as the guitarist for U.K.'s Maxïmo Park. IOUOME is his first solo studio album release.

Individuality is the main ingredient that feeds through IOUOME, a low-key but mesmerizing new release from Maxïmo Park's guitarist Duncan Lloyd. There is a moment on the album that reminds me of The Stone Roses, such as one of my favorite tracks "You Seem Confused." Everything else on the record sits comfortably between alternative pop and psych pop and carries a slightly different flavor. The songs are pretty easy going, and Lloyd proves to have a natural knack for finding a rhythm that's catchy and pleasurable on what would usually come across feeling restrained and uninteresting. IOUOME isn't going to blow you away or anything, but it's a solid record throughout. Some other standout singles include "Steel Pin raindrops," "Heart In Delay," feat Nicole Yun and "Heads of the Bastille" feat Andy May and Pue Yee Kan. You don't have to be a fan of Maxïmo Park to enjoy Duncan Lloyd's new album. As a matter of fact, you could have immense hatred for Maxïmo Park and connect with IOUOME. It's a record that feels deceptively uninteresting at first, elevated with competent songwriting and rich melodies that draw you in, and just like that, I was a fan. Worth checking out.
