Metallica is a band from Los Angeles, California that formed back in 1981. Current members include James Hetfield (vocals, guitar) Lars Ulrich (drums), Kirk Hammett (lead guitar), and Robert Trujillo (bass). Hardwired... to Self-Destruct is their tenth studio album release.Due to losing his phone at the airport which contained over 200 new riff ideas, Hammett was unable to contribute to the songwriting process, a first since he joined the group in 1983.

Compared to 2008's Death Magnetic, Hardwired is way more groove oriented, similar to 1991's Black album but without any of the cheesy love ballads. The new songs really bang. The rhythm section alone will pound you into submission. And also unlike Death Magnetic, Hammett isn't noodling all over the place. The music feels tight and focused, and the production is solid. It's every bit as exhilarating and powerful as a Metallica album should be. Some of the most memorable tracks include "Atlas, Rise!" "Moth Into Flame," "Dream No More," and "ManUNkind." Those who are looking for a head bludgeoning good-time will find it in Hardwired...to Self-Destruct, showcasing Metalica's undeniable prowess and inventiveness that goes back to the early days when they reigned supreme as Gods of heavy metal.
