Deerhunter is a band from Atlanta, Georgia that formed in 2001. They've gone through several lineup changes, a death and their singer being seriously injured and hospitalized after being hit by a car. They describe their music as "ambient punk", including elements of garage rock, shoegaze and post-punk. The current lineup consists of Bradford Cox (vocals, guitar, keyboards), Moses Archuleta (drums), Lockett Pundt (guitar, vocals) and Josh McKay (bass). Cox is also known for his solo project, Atlas Sound. Fading Frontier is their seventh studio album and it's also one of Deerhunter's most defining releases.

With Fading Frontier, you're definitely going to feel more of that Atlas Sound vibe than Deerhunter. Regardless, it's actually a very enjoyable listen with solid songwriting and instrumentation. I've never heard the band sound better than they do on the track “Snakeskin”.

The music is a combination of indie rock and neo-psychedelia. You'll hear more of Cox's solo project at play here, but with the full band of Deerhunter. This may turn off some of their devoted fans but as a stand alone record, Fading Frontier is truly a classic. It's something you'll want to go back and listen to over again. Most memorable tracks include "Living My Life", "Breaker", "Duplex Planet", "Snakeskin", “Ad Astra” and "Carrion".
