Field Mouse is a band based out of the New York/Philadelphia area. Members include Rachel Browne (vocals, guitar), Andrew Futral (guitar), Saysha Heinzman (bass), Tim McCoy (drums), and Zoë Browne (synth, rhodes, vocals). Additional musicians include Speedy Ortiz's Sadie Dupuis, Allison Crutchfield (Waxahatchee), and Joseph D'Agostino (Cymbals Eat Guitars). Episodic is their second studio release.

Field Mouse's newest album Episodic is a middling if somewhat disappointing eulogy to 90's alternative rock. In the end, it isn't the record it should be as it steers nowhere particularly memorable, failing to hit the heights it is so earnestly aiming for. The music on the new album has been compared to classics like The Lemonheads' It's A Shame About Ray and The Blake Babies' Sunburn. With those comparisons, I went into the record with high expectations. I can definitely hear some Lemonheads influence but the Blake Babies, not so much. Episodic lacks the catchy hooks and crafty songwriting those albums are celebrated for.  While it may not be completely solid, it follows a convincing formula that may peek the interest of 90s alternative rock aficionados. Standout tracks include "The Mirror," "The Order of Things" and "Out of Context."
